My name is Edwin and I live in Rotterdam with my fiancé and my 1 year old son. As a fulltime worker at the CCU in Rotterdam, I mostly work in my white uniform and directly put on my raw denim before and after work. Therefor it is harder for me to wear my raw denim, but I try my hardest to achieve those awesome fades and share them with you guys. Besides raw denim, I work out with some weights and love spending time with my family and try to see a lot from the world. Oh and I love food!
Why do you share your outfits? And why Instagram?
Instagram is for me the perfect way to get inspired by denim, denim progress and outfits from other IG-accounts. I personally like to share my small progress of my worn in jeans from virgin to vintage. And within the denim community, it’s great to receive positivity and also a great chance to give it back.
What makes your Instagram feed so special?
I think why my account is special is because my feed is most of the time filled with Denham-clothing. My first raw denim is from this brand, which for me was a brand with a great background story and quality clothing. After a few years my collection has grown and now I have some pretty special pieces and a lot of jeans. I’m not sharing a lot of my personal life on Instagram, most of the time outfits and the progress of my raw denim. Also my style is a mix of heritage and minimalism.
Where does your inspiration come from?
On Instagram I follow a lot of inspirational accounts. Accounts who I became more in contact with and some of them I also became friends with. I think this is also the power of Instagram. Check out these accounts: @wouterkaan, @hansjellema, @robin_meijerink, @bvo_66, @jasonvanpul and @diec0.
Where does your love for denim come from? When did it start?
It all started in Ridderkerk, where a store-worker was wearing a Denham Skin VJS and fell in love with the story of wearing raw denim and bought my first virgin Denham. That was my introduction to raw denim seven years ago. Then I started to study and get more information about fabrics, brands and construction. I was hooked!
Your top 3 favorite (denim)brands?
– Denham (the Jeanmaker) – For me it’s my number one brand by far, the story, ‘Destroy Convention, Worship Tradition’, ‘The truth is in the details’ and ‘From virgin to Vintage’ are still the reasons, after all these years, that I buy their clothing in Amsterdam.
– Benzak Denim Developers – Lennaert Nijgh started his company with amazing raw denim with different fabrics in perfect fits and details. This is for me my next favorite raw denim brand. I also like to compare it with the Dutch version of NY-based 3Sixteen.
– Red Wing Shoes – My 875 Moc toes are still my favourite leather boots and I think every man should have a pair of Red Wing boots in their rotation. The quality and construction speaks for itself.
6. What is your favorite accessory?
My favorite accessory is my veg tan JOEP-Keychain from Denham, I always were it with my jeans and it gives some amazing back pockets fades, in my opinion. And I always wear a watch, my favorite is my Submariner, a piece which can be worn in any occasion.
7. What items do you wear the most at the moment?
Now I’m most of the time wearing my new Japanese made Denham VISS, which is their latest raw denim and is my latest project. Now, when the weather is getting better, I’ll be wearing my Common Projects, Converse ox 70’ and Nike Mayfly’s a lot. I think a pair of white sneakers are a must!
What is your favourite shop? And what is your favourite webstore?
My favourite shop is Denham in Amsterdam. This is where I come very often to check out the new collection and bring in my denim for repairs. Online there are many shops with great collections and variety of brands. Therefore my favourite webstore is Cultizm.com. The German based webstore has everything a denimhead likes. The best thing about Cultizm is the service and the brands they offer.
Do you care about the production process?
I think the production and the quality of the production is one of the many details I always look for. And that’s why we all want to pay more for good quality. The production also gives the product a story and I’m crazy about the story behind a product. The progress could bring another dimension to the product.
What are your dreams for the future?
I wish for a happy and healthy life for my son and future wife, and to have lots of denim haha.
For the future I would like to have worn in some of my dry denim to a great vintage pieces. For me this is quite difficult, because of my daily occupation. Maybe one day I’ll start something for myself.
