Massdrop x Naked & Famous – Japanese Rope Dyed Selvage Denim
Massdrop teamed up with Naked & Famous to create a unique pair of jeans which will break in quickly and fade beautifully. For this collaboration, they used Naked & Famous’ bestselling Weird Guy fit, which is according to Massdrop just the right fit. Made of Japanese denim and constructed in Montreal, Massdrop and Naked & Famous presents you their first collaboration named, Ichiban.
Rope Dyed custom-made selvedge denim
For the Ichiban, Massdrop and Naked & Famous used natural indigo and a certain type of indigo dyeing called ‘Rope dye’. Rope dying is a process that involves repeatedly dipping the ropes of cotton into a bath of indigo dye. This process takes place before the yarns are woven into fabric. Between dips, the yarn is exposed to oxygen which will result in indigo colored yarns. Since the dye will not penetrate to the core of the yarn, the core will remain white. As a result of wearing, the fabric will gradually shed layers and slowly reveal the white core underneath.
This specific type of dying combined with the weaving process on a traditional shuttle loom creates an extraordinary depth of color and a handmade feel. And because the fabric is rope-dyed, it will fade faster.
The Ichiban
The Ichiban is made from 13.75 oz. sanforized selvedge denim from the denim capital of the world: Okayama, Japan. The fabric is custom made for this collaboration and features a light slub and a blue-line selvedge ID. Once the denim is ready, it will make its way from Okayama to the Naked & Famous factory in Montreal, Canada. This factory is the place where the fabric is cut and sewn into Naked and Famous’ bestselling Weird Guy fit. This fit is comfortable from the waist to the hip with a standard mid-rise and a slight taper from the knee to the hem.
Each pair is completed with a four-button fly, YKK hardware and a vegetable tanned leather patch that will darken and develop over time. Another cool feature of the Massdrop x Naked & Famous Ichiban is that all jeans are individually numbered. And because the first 400 purchasers are guaranteed to receive a pair of jeans with a serial number below 500, you have to act fast.
