Hi all, my name is Jason. I’m a 35-year- old family man. I live in Middelburg, The Netherlands with my wife and two kids. They take up a lot of my time, which really is a good thing! By means of my Instagram account I’m picking up some photography skills. It’s a great opportunity to experiment and try different things.

Besides raw denim, coffee is another of my passions. Therefore Amsterdam is one of my favourite cities to visit. Amsterdam offers both some of the best denim / menswear stores and coffee bars.

  1. Why do you share your outfits? And why Instagram?

The main reason why I share my outfits on Instagram is to show my appreciation for well-made, quality clothing and accessories. It has little to do with my personal style. Instead I really try to focus on the quality aspect and the details that brands put into their products.

  1. What makes your Instagram feed so special?

I don’t know about special. I try to keep the photos unique in my own way, which is actually quite hard because pretty much everything has been done before. For me, it’s mostly about finding a certain mood and / or background in my photos. Both have to be functional in a way that it’s always about the items shown.

  1. Where does your inspiration come from?

I draw my inspiration from other people and brands on Instagram. There are two sides to that. The first is a certain aesthetic, mood or composition in a picture that usually grabs my attention. The second is really about personal style. That’s an important one, because I’m still trying to develop my own.

  1. Where does your love for denim come from? When did it start?

I haven’t always been an advocate for raw denim. There has been a time that I couldn’t imagine anyone preferring to wear some rugged, unwashed jeans. I was really ignorant at the time. That changed gradually until, about six years ago, I decided to start a Tumblr about denim and coffee. That’s when I started browsing the internet and learned more about some of the denim brands out there. Amongst the first brands I got myself acquainted to were Noble Denim, Livid Jeans and Benzak Denim Developers.

Nowadays I can’t live without denim. It has become an inseparable part of my life. Not in the least because of a very unique and involved community that can be found, for instance, on Instagram.

  1. Your top 3 favorite (denim)brands?

Benzak Denim Developers – Aside from the implacable eye for detail and the use of the best fabrics around, the owner of the brand Lennaert Nijgh is a stand up guy. I’ve had the pleasure to meet him on several occasions. When he released the BDD-006 special #1 I got it straight away. It’s one of my favourite jeans.

Freenote Cloth – Sometimes you run into a brand and you seem to like pretty much everything they do. For me Freenote is such a brand. They don’t settle for anything less than the best. I recently obtained their Loomstate denim in the Trabuco fit through Graham from @samuelbravemfgco. This will be a staple piece for the rest of my life.

Noble Denim – It was one of the first brands I learned about when denim became essential for me. I was intrigued by Chris Sutton’s story about how he created Noble Denim. I am greatly inspired by people and their unwavering dedication to build something from the ground up. The passion they have for what they believe in is admirable.

6. What is your favorite accessory?

I actually have two favourite accessories at the moment. My P&Co WW-C-27 watch that I’m wearing with a G10 watch strap by Samuel Brave and my natural vegetable tanned bifold wallet from Pigeon Tree Crafting.

7. Which items do you wear most at the moment?

I have been wearing my Nudie Jeans Grim Tim (dry selvedge) for the past five months or so. I am currently participating in a Nudie Jeans x Robin Denim wear & tear contest. The Grim Tim is one of my favourite fits and the Kaihara denim has such a great fading potential. I love wearing the BDD pocket tee in off-white with it. My go to denim jacket at the moment is the Bulleit x Noble Denim Collaborative Jacket made from a 13.5 oz. washed denim from Cone Mills and featuring a barrel aged corduroy collar! As for footwear, I tend to go for my 8111 Moc Toes.

  1. What is your favorite shop? And what is your favorite webstore?

Where I live there are no brick and mortar stores worth mentioning. I recently visited Denoism in Rotterdam. A great store with some very interesting brands and a nice little area where you can grab a quick bite and some quality coffee. Obviously, Tenue de Nîmes in Amsterdam is worth mentioning. Although I never purchased anything from them, both stores in Amsterdam carry the best brands available and are very much worth a visit. As for my favourite webstore, that has to be Cultizm. I mean, just look at all the options.

  1. Do you care about the production process?

When you’re into quality clothing it’s pretty likely that you also care about where the stuff you buy comes from. Contributing to a sustainable production process is one of the main reasons why I buy from the brands I do. I have written several articles for Dutch denim blog Blue Roots Official in which I focus on how the denim industry is really trying to become eco-friendlier. A great example is set by one of the top mills in Europe, Candiani Denim.

But the production process of quality clothing is also about details. Most of which can’t be produced in fast fashion. It’s easy to appreciate something that has been made well and will only get better the more you use it.

  1. What are your dreams for the future?

I mentioned the community earlier. I’d love to be able to meet many more of the people behind the Instagram accounts. That’s always very interesting. Other than that, I’d like to get involved with some of the brands I mentioned one way or the other. It’s always great to get some collaborations going.
