Occupation: Engineer

I’m a mechanical engineer with too many hobbies. I sometimes wish I had fewer so I could focus attention more in specific areas, but I think the diverse interests make me well rounded.

My favorite hangout spots are usually coffee shops. My fiancé and I run a local food blog, @eathuntsville, so we are always searching for the best food and checking out new restaurants. I’m currently all about large vegetarian meals, and I love Asian food.

I enjoy staying active and going on long hikes both in the woods and around the city. Taking my camera along to document any cool cars or scenery along the way is always fun. Another passion is vintage watches so I’m always reading about them and trying to learn everything I can about my favorite models.

  1. Why do you share your outfits? And why Instagram?

I started out using Instagram as a way to share my hobbies, especially EDC gear. Early on I was also posting a lot of sneakers and from there it grew into Red Wing boots and denim. I started to see people doing these types of posts daily so I joined in and made posting outfits a daily habit.

  1. What makes your Instagram feed so special?

The special part about it to me is that I don’t limit my types of posts or styles too much and just post whatever I feel like at the time. I do try to balance out pictures of gear/clothing with other types of lifestyle content to show more of my interests and keep my account versatile.

  1. Where does your inspiration come from?

First of all, I have the collector gene. So researching various boots, denim, and other gear comes naturally. Once I get hooked on something like that, it becomes a lot more than just a passing interest. I want to know everything I can regarding whatever passion I pick up. I go through periods where I might be really into one particular hobby such as sneakers, firearms, mechanical watches, or pocket knives and then switch it up to focusing on another one for a while. My inspiration will often come from seeing great content online from other gearheads.

  1. Where does your love for denim come from? When did it start?

My love for specialty denim started about four years ago after I got into Red Wing boots through seeing great shots of them on Instagram. The boots were definitely responsible for getting me interested in the denim and workwear styles. I had never really known anyone locally that was interested in them, and there didn’t seem to be a presence for that type of style where I live. So seeing styles that were focused around quality heritage boots and denim instantly piqued my interest.

  1. Your top 3 favorite (denim)brands?

These are the three favorites I currently own. There are so many Japanese brands on my radar that I want to try eventually.

Tanuki – To me it is the quintessential Japanese denim, and I love my RS1 pair with the retro fabric. I like the subtle details including the “Ni” logo representing tradition and change.

KATO’ – They nailed the stretch fabric and made denim that can be appreciated by those seeking long lasting comfort as well as denim head purists. I like having refined denim like this that can be worn casually or even dressed up a bit.

Oneculture – The Pulsar version I have feels indestructible, and I plan to do a lot of hiking in them this fall and winter to hopefully beat them up a bit. I appreciate the lighter blue shade and double redline selvedge.

6. What is your favorite accessory?

This would have to be my watch. I wear an Omega Speedmaster daily and have been a fanatic of mechanical watches since college. I enjoy switching between various colors of nylon and leather NATO straps daily.

7. Which items do you wear most at the moment?

Right now my go-to boot is the Iron Ranger. It’s my most comfortable and versatile pair so it gets a lot of wear. Currently my most worn jeans are the Tanuki RS1 and KATO’ 4 way stretch selvedge; both are comfortable with great fits, and I like switching between a lighter weight stretch fabric and a more substantial slubby fabric. If I’m going out for a day of urban trekking in warmer weather I always go for my Adidas Ultraboosts.

  1. What is your favorite shop? And what is your favorite webstore?

Old North in Asheville, North Carolina is a great shop I was recently able to visit. I love the mix of brands they carry, and the shop just feels right.

When it comes to online shopping I’m a deal hunter and go wherever I can find a bargain. There are so many webstores I frequently check.

  1. Do you care about the production process?

Absolutely. I find that knowing all the details behind a brand and how a product is made really helps me to connect with it more, which is what I’m looking for when considering buying heritage gear I expect to stay with me a long time.

  1. What are your dreams for the future?

My fiancé and I have been house hunting for the past several months and waiting for the right historic craftsman home to become available. I’m hoping that dream will be a reality very soon. I also hope to be part of building a community and culture to be proud of in this fast growing tech city. I hope at some point I will be able to spend more of my time doing what I feel passionately about. If I could devote all of my time to photography and creating content I would.
