Ten years of Tenue de Nîmes

Ten years ago Tenue de Nîmes first opened its doors at the Elandsgracht in the famous ‘De Jordaan’ district in Amsterdam. Menno van Meurs, a co-founder at that time, found the perfect balance between hardcore raw denim and high-end fashion. It turned out to be a successful combination since Tenue de Nîmes is listed in the top 10 of the world’s ten best denim stores.

To celebrate the first ten years, Tenue de Nîmes will release ten limited collaborations with renowned brands. Last month, during the Denim Days, they released a pair of jeans made in collaboration with Momotaro Jeans. The unique ‘Happy 10th Birthday’ collaboration jeans is limited to only 60 pieces and is available both online as in their stores. In the next few months, Tenue de Nîmes will announce more limited collaborations with notable brands such as Vans and Levi’s Vintage Clothing (!!). Now, teaming up with thé iconic boot maker, Tenue de Nîmes adds another great partner to the list of collaborations to celebrate ten valuable years of existence.

When Tenue de Nîmes and Red Wing first started working on the boot, they quickly concluded that there was one essential element: the boot had to be blue. The Red Wing Classic Moc Toe boot was voted the model of choice. The Moc Toe, with a white polyurethane outsole, was made in the 1950s for hunters and farmers. It was built to withstand hard labor and harsh weather conditions. The Traction Tred sole with its minimal tread that sheds mud and provides the underfoot comfort the workday required. The crescent-shaped stitching on the toe was inspired by the construction of the shoes, or ‘moccasins’ worn by the North American Algonquin Indians. The Classic Moc Toe boots have since become a legend.
The anniversary boot has a deep dark indigo color and was hand dyed under the supervision of the denim-masters of Momorato Jeans. They came up with the idea of an artificial indigo dye to create a deep dark indigo blue boot. The entire dyeing process took place in a tiny dye-house in Kojima, Okayama, the heart of Japanese denim. All boots will come with a pair of leather laces which are also dyed in indigo and will be packed in a custom, hand-numbered box.

The Tenue de Nîmes x Red Wing Shoes Indigo Moc Toe Boot is a limited release of only 75 pairs. After the official release, they will drop in both stores on Friday, November 23rd, marking the exact date of their ten years anniversary. The boots are only available at Tenue de Nîmes and come at the price of €399.
