BENZAK Continues to Reinvent Timeless Classics – The BDJ-01 and BDJ-02 Denim Jackets

Renowned Amsterdam-based denim brand Benzak Denim Developers has been up and running since 2013 and continues to broaden its offering each season. Starting with a few pairs of ‘Made in Japan’ jeans, the brand now offers a full range of high-quality menswear garments, all carrying the strong BENZAK identity.

Owner of the brand, Lennaert Nijgh, has always had a strong vision on denim and he’s managed to successfully translate his brilliant denim mind into a solid identity for BENZAK. This is particularly visible in the series of denim jackets the brand has released in the past few years; not your typical Type I, II or III jacket. On the contrary, a redesigned and contemporary classic for the modern man, which fits perfectly with the identity of the brand.

The BDJ-01 Cowboy Jacket

The BDJ-01 Cowboy Jacket was the first denim jacket in BENZAK’s collection and was launched in 2018. It has a modernized fit, but takes inspiration from the original Type I and Type II denim jackets. Both designs were merged together and redesigned in order to fit with the ‘modern day cowboy’ vibe, featuring BENZAK’s signature details. Slightly longer than its predecessors in length, it retains classic details but keeps things contemporary.

The BDJ-01 Cowboy Jacket features pleats at either side of the placket and by incorporating box stitching into the design, BENZAK is paying homage to the origins of the denim jacket. But with a large patch pocket on both sides, the brand has managed to give the jacket a typical BENZAK twist. The left patch pocket also features BENZAK’s Bull logo, which is stitched down with an indigo dyed yarn.

The BDJ-01 Cowboy Jacket is currently available in three very different fabrics, including an 11.5 oz. Indigo x Black canvas fabric and a 15 oz. Tiger Selvedge from Japan featuring a black and yellow selvedge ID. The final option is BENZAK’s Special #2 fabric which has been exclusively woven for the brand by Candiani Denim Mill. The Special #2 fabric is a 3×1 right hand twill weighing 15 oz., featuring a unique shade of indigo and a blue & orange selvedge ID.

The BDJ-02 Rider Jacket

After the success of the BDJ-01 Cowboy Jacket, Lennaert and his team went back to the drawing board to redesign another classic. The BDJ-02 Rider Jacket is BENZAK’s take on a classic ‘biker style’ denim jacket. Perhaps not as iconic as the Type I or Type II in the denim world, but nonetheless a garment which is instantly recognizable and has its own history.

As with the BDJ-01, the BDJ-02 Rider Jacket has some noticeable signature details and shows the personality of BENZAK. It has two rounded chest pockets, of which one is hidden, and two large hand warmer pockets, resulting in outstanding functionality and a great aesthetic. The jacket is again adorned with the BENZAK bull logo stitched in indigo yarn on the right chest pocket. It is currently available in two Italian made fabrics, including an 11 oz. Industrial Blue Selvedge featuring a unique grey tone. Due to its weight and appearance, it is perfectly suited to a jacket of this kind. The second fabric option is the Special #2 fabric from Candiani Denim Mill.

As of the end of May, BENZAK will also be offering the BDJ-02 Rider Jacket in a summer-friendly Ecru Selvedge fabric. Coming in at the weight of 12 oz. and featuring a beautiful blue selvedge, it’s going to be perfect for the warmer months and will compliment an indigo pair of jeans perfectly.
