Leading BLUEZONE Forward: An Interview with Florian Klinder

The next BLUEZONE show is coming up in just a few weeks, and the final preparations are now in full swing. Under the banner of “NEXUS”, the show is about to introduce its reimagined concept, and we have high expectations. You are invited to join the show and discover the exciting new concept on September 2nd and 3rd—an unmissable opportunity to connect with denim professionals from around the world and explore the latest collections and innovations. Will we see you there?

Before packing our suitcases and jumping on a plane to Munich, we had time to sit down with Florian Klinder, BLUEZONE’s new managing director, to get to know each other a little better. During our conversation, we found out that denim runs deep in Florian’s DNA, and he told us about his vision for BLUEZONE and why he decided to integrate the show into the much larger Munich Fabric Start show. Please enjoy our conversation below.

Robin Denim: Can you start by introducing yourself?

Florian Klinder: My name is Florian Klinder, and I’m proud to take on the role of Managing Director of Munich Fabric Start and BLUEZONE. The fashion and textile world has always been part of my DNA, going back two generations to my grandfather, who began selling German-made fabrics in the late 1940s. My father, Wolfgang Klinder, continued that journey and was one of the original founders of Munich Fabric Start. My brother Sebastian has led the show with passion and vision over the past 20 years. In parallel, our family also built a strong foundation in the market through a textile agency based in Munich—run by my grandfather and father, and later by myself and my sister, Stephanie Klinder-Leible. We proudly represented premium fabric mills and helped bring their collections to leading German fashion brands and designers.

Having grown up immersed in this industry from the showrooms to the show floors, I feel a deep responsibility and immense pride in continuing our family’s legacy. For me, this is more than a role; it’s a commitment to the creative energy and innovation that drives fashion forward.

Robin Denim: What drew you to the denim industry?

Florian Klinder: Denim has always held a special fascination for me—it’s not just a fabric, it’s a cultural movement. The way it evolves, ages, and reflects individuality is unique in the textile world. What keeps me passionate is the community behind denim: it’s a space filled with innovators, storytellers, and forward-thinkers. There’s a raw honesty in denim—its roots in workwear, its global journey, and its future in circularity and innovation. Being part of that transformation is truly inspiring.

Robin Denim: How has it been for you to join BLUEZONE? What has struck you the most so far?

Florian Klinder: It’s been both an emotional and exciting journey. Joining BLUEZONE feels like coming home, yet it also feels like stepping into a new chapter. What has struck me most is the energy. This is more than a trade show; it’s a tight-knit global community. Exhibitors, visitors, and partners are genuinely invested. There’s a shared sense of purpose, especially around themes like sustainability and innovation. That passion is contagious and has made this transition incredibly rewarding.

ConneXXion
Robin Denim: In your view, what makes BLUEZONE stand out compared to other denim trade shows?

Florian Klinder: BLUEZONE is built on authenticity and trust. From the beginning, it was conceived by industry insiders for the industry. It’s intimate yet international, selective yet inclusive. We provide not just a platform for sourcing, but a curated experience that fosters meaningful dialogue, creativity, and collaboration. The mix of heritage and forward-thinking makes BLUEZONE a truly unique environment within the denim world.

Robin Denim: What are your expectations for this year’s BLUEZONE? What new initiatives or experiences can visitors look forward to that connect to the “NEXUS” theme?

Florian Klinder: “NEXUS” perfectly captures what we aim to create: meaningful connection. We’re building new intersections between denim, technology, sustainability, and culture. Visitors can look forward to fresh zones, collaborative installations, and thought-provoking panels—including museum-style showcases and tributes to homegrown denim legends like Mr. Erwin Licher.

My goal is for every attendee to leave feeling inspired, informed, and part of something larger than just business as usual.

Robin Denim: Will this season feature any special talks, panels, or educational sessions that tackle key industry topics like sustainability and circularity?

Florian Klinder: Absolutely. This season, we’re diving deep into the industry’s biggest challenges with expert-led panels and hands-on sessions focused on sustainability, circularity, and real innovation. From regenerative denim to circular business models and traceability, we’re spotlighting what truly matters. Stay tuned for more on our Circularity and Material Innovation Panels. Plus, Simon Angel returns with Sustainable Innovations, and BIOTEXFUTURE will showcase exciting new projects like BioCushion, CircWool, and BioPEtex—joined by trailblazers from Textile Exchange, Tommy Hilfiger, Quantis, and more.

Robin Denim: You have decided to integrate the BLUEZONE concept into Munich Fabric Start. What made you decide to do this, and how do you think this will improve the experience for exhibitors and visitors?

Florian Klinder: The integration was a natural evolution. By bringing BLUEZONE closer to the main Munich Fabric Start framework, we’re creating a more unified and efficient experience for our visitors—many of whom are already interested in both. Exhibitors benefit from increased foot traffic and exposure to a broader audience, while still maintaining the niche appeal and identity of BLUEZONE. It’s about synergy, not dilution.

Robin Denim: How have exhibitors and partners reacted to BLUEZONE’s integration into Munich Fabric Start so far?

Florian Klinder: The response has been mainly positive. Naturally, any change raises questions, but once we shared our vision—preserving BLUEZONE’s DNA while creating new opportunities—most partners immediately saw the added value. Many welcome the improved logistics and broader visibility. The industry is evolving, and our stakeholders understand that we’re evolving with it, not moving away from what makes BLUEZONE special.

Robin Denim: How do you plan to maintain BLUEZONE’s unique denim identity?

Florian Klinder: Preserving BLUEZONE’s soul is non-negotiable. We’re keeping the dedicated space, atmosphere, and culture that define it—everything from the layout to the curated selection of exhibitors. At the same time, we’re leveraging Munich Fabric Start’s infrastructure to elevate the overall experience: better services, stronger programming, and deeper industry connections. It’s about protecting what makes BLUEZONE unique while amplifying its reach and impact.

Robin Denim: What is your vision for BLUEZONE’s future now that it’s integrated into Munich Fabric Start? H ow do you see it evolving over the next few years?

Florian Klinder: My vision is for BLUEZONE to become the global reference point for progressive denim. That means growing our international footprint, embracing new tech, championing circular systems, and fostering creative partnerships across disciplines. I see BLUEZONE not just as a marketplace, but as a movement—one that brings together heritage, innovation, and responsibility in a way that truly shapes the future of denim.

I want to thank Florian for taking the time to sit down with us and to answer our questions. Honestly speaking, when we first heard about the integration of BLUEZONE into Munich Fabric Start, we were quite sceptical. But, our conversation with Florian left us convinced that this bold decision is exactly what the industry needs. We are preparing for NEXUS with a mixture of excitement and curiosity. We’re confident that Florian will be able to integrate BLUEZONE while preserving its unique identity. With BLUEZONE’s fantastic track record, we’re sure it’s going to be great! We hope we’ll see you all in Munich in just a few weeks!
