My name is Nils and I am living in Malmö, Sweden, with my Danish wife and two kids. I work as a verification engineer in Lund, Sweden. Being a dad takes up most of my “free” time atm. I used to sing in a choir and play quite a lot of video games. But I am finding it difficult to find time for anything nowadays.
I am very interested in music. Most genres have some golden nuggets. But I tend to end up in the “folk” genre most of the time.
I also have a sweet spot for 90s grunge. If interested checkout one of my playlists: https://open.spotify.com/user/nizzel55/playlist/5IY3RHqq2anPJoVYsiunFk
I also enjoy photography. However, I am a rookie when it comes to taking photos and editing them afterwards. When it comes to photography I believe in the saying ‘Quantity for Quality’. I usually take loads of pictures and hope that one or two of them will be ok.
I also really like playing board games. The two I play the most at the moment are Star Realms and Neuroshima Hex. They are really fun two player games that I play with my wife.
- Why do you share your outfits? And why Instagram?
Even though I got a few followers, I mainly use it as a picture diary for myself. I love seeing denim evolve over time. It is however a very slow process and the result varies depending on who you are, what you do and how you handle and wash your denim. By sharing my pictures, I am giving other people the possibility to follow the evolution of the pair of jeans or shirt I am wearing, without having to wear it themselves.
Instagram is a great place to share pictures and it has a great denim community with loads of enthusiasts like myself.
- What makes your Instagram feed so special?
It is a picture diary displaying the evolution of my clothes, boots and accessories. From purchase to retirement.
- Where does your inspiration come from?
I am an active reader over at superfuture/superdenim, iron heart forum, heddels, denimhunters and on Instagram. I get inspired by watching other peoples’ fade projects and seeing their pictures and hearing their stories.
- Where does your love for denim come from? When did it start?
It started with two pair of Edwin jeans (Edwin ED49 and Edwin Nashvilles) I bought in April 2012. Before that time, I have had “raw” jeans, but had not given the topic much thought before that point in time.
I accidentally stumbled over an article about denim over at denimhunters. After that I was hooked. I read everything I could get my hands on regarding denim. The more I read and browsed the web the more enthralled I got. I found Rawr denim where they had a lovely forum where members could add their denim evolution story. Sadly the stories were lacking a bit. Most of the time there were only one or two pictures displaying the end result before retirement.
I wanted to see the full story. Therefore, I tried to post pictures displaying the full evolution journey of the pair I used most at that time (Edwin ED-49).
I also found Superfuture and a whole new denim world opened up for me. One of the threads that I got hooked on was and is called “The Evolution of Jeans: Pictures, Scones and Tea“. I have read every single page in that thread and still follow it on daily basis.
The more I read, the more I saw, and the more interested I got in the “top-end” brands. Therefore I got myself a pair of Iron Hearts ( IH-666S, http://www.ironheart.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=6341.0 ).
Iron Heart had and has a great forum with some really active and friendly members and staff that answered all my stupid questions regarding sizing and so on. I am still browsing through the forum on daily basis. It is a great community for denim heads.
- Your top 3 favourite (denim)brands? And why?
I like to wear my pair of jeans to the ground before switching to a new pair, therefore I have not had the chance to test that many brands.
From personal experience I have to say Iron Heart. The build quality of their jeans is awesome and the support from the Iron Heart crew is great.
After 3 pairs of IHs I will most probably get a pair from another brand next time I will buy a pair of jeans. I need to broaden my view a bit. I do however love all 3 pairs immensely and I can really recommend IH to anyone looking for an awesome pair of jeans.
There are so many awesome denim brands out there and so many jeans I want to wear for an extensive time. My next pair will probably be a Pure blue Japan, Samurai jeans or Oni denim as I have seen so many mind-blowing pairs from them on the forums and on Instagram.
- What is your favourite accessory?
It is hard to pick just one. But I feel very naked without one of my watches on my wrist. So it is definitely one of my top accessories. Belt, wallet and key-pouch are also must haves in my book.
- What items do you wear the most at the moment? Why?
I am currently participating in the denim world championship ( 2015-2017 ) with two pairs. IH-666SII and IH-666UHR. I could not choose between the two pairs for the DWC. Therefore, I entered both pairs into the competition. I know my chance of winning is slim. But it is all about sharing the evolution of my pairs and taking part of the evolution of the other participants pairs. Winning is not important. I got 416 days of wear with my IH-666SII and 172 days on my IH-666UHR.
I am rotating both pairs but I am mostly using the 666SII. Because I really want to hit 431 days. Then I have the same amount of days on my old IH-666S. Would be fun taking a side by side comparison photo.
- What is your favourite shop? And what is your favourite webstore?
My favourite shop is Meadow ( meadowweb.com ) in my hometown Malmö. Awesome staff, super friendly and they got a great assortment of cloths and boots. I love to visit and just hang out and talk about denim, boots, music and life.
When it comes to web store I have to say Iron Heart ( ironheart.co.uk ). Impeccable service and also super friendly. I am also very satisfied with my contact with denimio.com , okayamadenim.com and rivetandhide.com.
- Do you care about the production process? Why (not)?
Yes. I find it important. I rather pay a bit more for my cloths knowing they have been produced in an ethical way.
- What are your dreams for the future?
To win the DWC. HAHA.. Na. just kidding. I hope to continue to rock my jeans and shirts. I want to get my IH-SH76 and IH-SH62 to a really worn down state. Hopefully I will get there.
