I’m Wouter Kaan. I’m a 20 year old graphic designer working in Rotterdam and living in Schoonhoven. It is a little city not too far from Rotterdam. I work at a relatively small company with some huge clients so I can work on some really cool projects. I love beautiful things and I also love to make things beautiful. I’m a lead singer and guitarist (#martinpride) in my band. When I’m not working I listen, or make, music or I’m dreaming about my next guitar.
- Why do you share your outfits? And why Instagram?
When I started using Instagram I focused on denim and wanted to show the aging process of my first denim (Nudie Jeans Grim Tim), and after a year or so, I got more and more followers. And when I bought my first Common Projects (best sneakers ever!) my Instagram exploded. I discovered people wanted to see a good combination of expensive essentials and more affordable clothing. So that’s why I share my outfits. And I use Instagram because you only have to care about the pictures and the quality of them and not have to write something about it. Also when you follow the right people you only see things you like, it’s almost customized one can say? Unlike Facebook where you see everything the world is doing; I only want to see beautiful things.
- What makes your Instagram feed so special?
As I mentioned I want to show my followers how you can put simple and clean outfits together with a mix and match of quality brands and more affordable brands like H&M or Weekday.
- Where does your inspiration come from?
I get my inspiration from some people I think. But I always give it a twist so it becomes more like how I want it. But @fredrikrisvik has a perfect Instagram and there a some other people like @tibods etc.
- Where does your love for denim come from? When did it start?
My love for denim came when I started to work at Men At Work as a Jeans specialist. (I didn’t had any knowledge of denim but I got the job so…) I liked the brand Denham a lot. Their jeans were pretty cool and new to me, like a 7 point pocket and the white leather patch. As I worked at Men At Work I gained more and more knowledge about denim, because you have to know your product. I also bought my first raw denim there. It was a Nudie Jeans Grim Tim, and wore it for 8 months straight without a wash because I wanted to show people how beautifully raw denim can age over time.
- Your top 3 favourite (denim)brands? And why?
I think my favorite denim brand is Denham. I know some people at Denham and I also know the jeans, but the tops are just how I like it. Simple but full of beautiful details. I love a lot denim brands such as APC and Edwin etc. But if we talk about non denim brands I love Common Projects, Acne Studios, Comme des Garcons and COS.
- What is your favorite accessory?
I think it is my watch. The last few months I got a lot of lovely watches and I started to have more and more interest in watches. Most of the time I wear a watch with a silver milanese strap.
- What items do you wear the most at the moment? Why?
I think my Common Projects Achilles Low (white) are my most worn sneakers. I think I wear them like 4 times a week or more. Also as the weather changes I love to wear some woolen trousers or black jeans, combined with a grey woolen scarf and a black coat.
- What is your favorite shop? And what is your favorite webstore? (And why)
I think my favorite shop is Denoism in Rotterdam. They are good guys and have a beautiful collection of quality denim and a wide range of tops and jackets. And also the coffee and the sandwiches are perfect! My favorite online store is END clothing. They have the best brands and a great collection of Common Projects 😉
- Do you care about the production process? Why (not)?
Yes I do, but only when it comes to more expensive products, like shoes and jeans. When I buy something at a cheaper store I care less to be honest.
- What are your dreams for the future?
Well I think I’d want to just continue with my love for quality products and I make some good music. I’m not looking too far ahead into the future because I want to have some room for upcoming dreams haha. If you’ve got questions or so feel free to contact me of DM me on Instagram.
