Yesterday we’ve introduced to you the Nudie Jeans x Robin Denim Wear & Tear Contest. As we promised yesterday, today we will present the four guys who will tear their Nudie Jeans Grim Tim apart..

Together with lots of beer, ping pong and a nice view over the Amsterdam’s nightlife, the start of the contest at Nudie Jeans Amsterdam HQ was a big success! The guys from Nudie highlighted the Nudie Jeans SS17 collection before we proceeded to explain the contest. Afterwards the ‘official’ part of the meeting, we had the chance to, finally, meet the guys behind the Instagram accounts.. Whilst the guys are competitors during the contest, I have to say.. they were actually kind of friendly to each other..

So, let’s meet the guys who we will do whatever it takes to win the first Nudie Jeans x Robin Denim Wear & Tear Contest..

Teun Cuypers

1. Tell us, who are you? What are your hobbies, passions in life, and what do you like about your job? What’s your clothing style?

I am a creative person with a passion for beautiful things and aesthetics. High quality and perfect finishes are very important for me personally and have the lead in my work and vision. I am a freelance photographer and a writer in its broadest sense.

I am a denim head with a lot of different passions. When I am not at work, I am always busy with music. I like to play bass in a garage-band with some friends. As a real Dutchman, I have to mention my bike. Every day, I cycle to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings, the nature.. Of course, this will help my jeans fade!

My style varies a lot, but is mainly based on traditional American workwear with a Japanese twist, finished with a Scandinavian clean look on details. Just like everything else about me, lots of different influences mixed together with a strong focus on the real classics.

2. Why are you participating in the contest? 

I live inside my jeans.. everything I do, I do it inside my jeans. From day one, the fading process has a magical feeling for me. The crispy feeling on my legs in the first week, the settle of the fit and fades and the whiskers and honeycombs coming in.. The first unexpected rain soak which gives your pair of jeans a whole new character and the electric blue color on sunny days. I even love the moment when I get the next crotch blowout.. all those tiny things together contribute to my biggest passion.. Raw denim.  In conclusion; With a pair of jeans on my legs I live my life, enjoying the journey.

Ten years ago, when I fell in love with denim, Nudie was my proverbial gateway drug. My obsession started with the crispy feeling of the Nudie Jeans Grim Tim. This year, I will go back to my indigo roots.. For me it’s like a personal tribute to where it all began!

3. What are your expectations of the Wear & Tear contest? Will you win?

I expect this year to be filled with lots of new memories and experiences.  I couldn’t tell you what places I am going to take this pair of jeans this year, but I can promise you, this pair of jeans will be on my legs for the next 365 days! If I am going to win? We shall see.. I will do whatever I can!

Maurice Tuhusula

1. Tell us, who are you? What are your hobbies, passions in life, and what do you like about your job? What’s your clothing style?

I am a denimphomanic ™, Denim is my hobby and my passion! My clothing style is; ‘Denim till I dye’™. Besides denim I like to build Japanese robot model kits.
 

2. Why are you participating in the contest?

Denim destruction is my passion and that’s exactly the reason why I am participating in this contest. For me, denim is only a denim when it’s a dry and it has a selvedge edge.

Why Nudie? Because they stole my heart ten years ago and because I had the privilege to work for them! What I love about Nudie Jeans is their vision on sustainable denim and their organizational transparency.

3. What are your expectations of the Wear & Tear contest? Will you win?

I expect to win this Wear & Tear contest! In contrast to most denim heads, I am not sitting behind my desk all day. I am a wild lad and no matter what, I will always wear my jeans. Rain or shine, through thick and thin, whether I am working or climbing, I live in my pair of jeans! Once again, I will win this contest for sure!

1. Tell us, who are you? What are your hobbies, passions in life, and what do you like about your job? What’s your clothing style?

My name is Jason and I live with my wife and son Dean in Middelburg. Soon there will be a new addition to the family. A little girl is on her way! I work at an advertising agency. One of the best things about it is that I get to wear denim every day of the week. In the past four years, I have become really passionate about denim. More specifically dry denim. I love the crispy feel of a fresh pair of unwashed denim and how it softens with the wear. The process of breaking in a pair of jeans is very fascinating and addictive. Denim has become a way of life. I enjoy learning more about it and understanding how it’s produced and constructed. Especially the artisanal side of it appeals to me.

2. Why are you participating in the contest?

My first serious break-in attempt was a Nudie and it’s now my favorite pair. I love that they start out raw, but nothing beats a well worn-in jeans. Nudie Jeans is a very admirable brand. I love the whole philosophy behind it. Especially their sustainable approach of producing denim, and their sense of humor. Last year I was invited to a party at the Nudie Jeans showroom in Amsterdam while the whole team from Sweden was there. We spent a great part of the evening playing table tennis. So, to be asked to participate in a Wear & Tear contest involving Nudie Jeans, and to be invited back to the showroom a year later is just something I couldn’t let pass. I have always wanted to do something like this by way of a challenge or a contest. So now the game is on! And judging by the other contestants, it’s going to be a tough one.

3. What are your expectations of the Wear & Tear contest? Will you win?

I think the Wear & Tear contest is going to be lots of fun. It’s not going to be easy to get to 350 days of effective wear in one year, but I’m going to give it my best shot. I sit at a desk a lot, so I’m not really a fast fader. That might prove to be a disadvantage. Although I really like to win, I don’t think I will. Just take a look at the IG accounts of some of the others. They seem to be eating denim for breakfast. All I can say is let the best man win and let us enjoy ourselves along the way.

Roman Willemse

1. Tell us, who are you? What are your hobbies, passions in life, and what do you like about your job? What’s your clothing style?

I am a guy with a lot of (sometimes too much) interest in fashion. I am doing an internship at the Amsterdam based brand 45-30 and I work in Amsterdam and Haarlem in a store called ‘Number Nine’. Besides, I have a website about Fashion, Music and Lifestyle. The webstite has a focus men with similar interests as the ones myself and the editorial team have. My style when it comes to clothing is very diverse. One day I’ll wear a completely worn out pair of APC jeans with sneakers and the next day I could be wearing a trouser with a pair of Common Project sneakers. Sneakers are always at the center of my outfit, so you can call me a ‘sneaker head’.

2.     Why are you participating in the contest?

Although I’ve just called myself a sneaker head, raw denim is the most interesting piece of garment because it reflects your lifestyle.

Why Nudie? Because I’ve known the brand for many years and I already own several pair of Nudies. Till now, I never wore a Nudie dry, so this is my Nudie dry debut. Since my APC is completely worn out it was time for a new project, so this contest came at the perfect time. I think, and hope, this pair of jeans will succeed just like my APC did.

3.     What are your expectations of the Wear & Tear contest? Will you win?

I expect this contest to be a close call. We’re all very different persons with different jobs and interests and I think this will be displayed through our jeans. I am going to win? Of course! From all the participants, I am the least hardcore denim head, so basically I am the underdog. Being the underdog gives me the advantage to surprise all the competitors at the end of the contest!
